Stand with Stan
"Stand with Stan" is an NPO which has been created to allow proper access to prosthetics for amputees that are less-privileged and who have poor or no prosthetics at all.
Our mandate is to provide access to above average prosthetics to amputees, and if needed, to mentor the candidate to ensure that they have a positive attitude towards life and their prosthetic.
Too many amputees are currently not living a fulfilled life due to the fact that their prosthetics may not be up to level that they require to live a life as normal as possible. This is mainly due to them not having the right resources, not having a medical aid, having to use a government institution or even the wrong prosthetist.
Another problem is that so many people, although given the best prosthetic to allow them to reach his/her full potential, often refuse to accept the prosthetic as they are not comfortable with something foreign. And it doesn't help if you have the best prosthetics in the world but havent received the correct rehabilitation and therefore may not develop the correct attitude towards the prosthetic or even life as an amputee.
At Stand with Stan, it is believed that given the correct prosthetics and assistance in having the right attitude, the candidate will realise that very few things actually need to change. The candidate can be assisted to develop a more positive attitude towards their prosthetic and their outlook on life through a personal mentorship programme.
Through corporate sponsorship and partnership, and several annual fundraisers, Stand with Stan hopes to be able to make a difference in people's lives by raising the financial requirement needed for the supply of prosthetics suited to each individual which will allow them to reach their full potential and if needed, inclusion in the mentorship programme.
